Common Zones Set-Up Issues

  1. Subjects with different levels.

As the zones report averages progress achieved across the subjects in the zone all of the subjects must have the same levels. If each subject uses different levels or a different number of levels then you cannot use the zones report.

The framework below is an example of when a zone and the zones report cannot be used:

  1. Subject Weighting Without Figures

If you decide to enable subject weighting in admin>settings>zones you need to then enter your figures into the zone in admin>lists>zones for the reports to us to calculate.

If 'enable weighting' is switched on and you do not enter any figures to use then the reports will not work as all subjects have no weight.

If you do not switch on enable weighting then all subjects will be weighted evenly.

  1. Reduced Progress

If a pupil has only made progress in one subject within a zone then we do not recommend using the zones report as the progress in the one subject will be reduced when it is average against the subjects without any progress.

  1. Zones Containing A Single Subject

Zones are to average progress when there are multiple subject strands for example if you wanted an average progress for Literacy but you have three Literacy strands, Reading, Writing and Communication. In order for the report to create these averages the zone must contain at least two subjects. If you wanted to see the progress for a single subject you would use any of the other progress reports and not the zones report.
