Targets show pupils and parents what you expect them to achieve by the end of the academic year. TrackAble offers multiple flexible ways to set targets—whether you're setting them for individual pupils, entire classes, or key stages. Choose the method that works best for your situation.

Manual Targets for Individual Pupils

Set targets for one pupil across multiple subjects:

Go to the pupil's profile
Open their target-setting area within the framework
For each subject:
- Type the desired ending level for the academic year
- Select a target percentage (e.g., 80% of pupils at this level by year end)
Save

Use this method when you want to set specific targets based on individual pupil needs and potential.

Smart Fill: Auto-Generate Termly Targets

Let TrackAble calculate intermediate targets for you:

Set the pupil's end-of-year target level
Click "Smart Fill"
The system generates linear termly targets automatically (e.g., targets for each half-term or term)
Review the generated figures
Adjust as needed — manually increase, decrease, or amend any term's target
Save

If a pupil joins late in the year:

Instead of starting from September, choose to "Smart Fill from [Term]" (e.g., from Spring term onward)
Targets will be adjusted based on the remaining time in the year

This feature saves time while still allowing you to customize targets for individual circumstances.

Manual Targets by Subject (Whole Class)

Set targets for all pupils in a class within one subject at once:

Go to the Subject targets view
Select the class
Enter target levels for every learner in that subject
Save

Use this method when subject teachers want to set targets for their specific subject across the entire class quickly.

Predictive Targets (Based on Historical Progress)

Auto-generate targets based on a pupil's past performance:

Go to the pupil's Predictive Targets section
Click Generate Predictive Targets
TrackAble analyzes the pupil's historical academic progress and creates termly targets automatically
Review and adjust if needed
Save

Important: Predictive targets require at least one full academic year of data. If a subject lacks sufficient historical data, targets will remain blank for that subject.

Use this when you want data-driven targets based on the pupil's proven trajectory.

Blanket Targets (Flight Path Method)

Set targets for an entire key stage and subject at once (useful for consistent expectations):

Go to Admin > Flight Path tab
Select the key stage and subject
Enter:
- Starting point (e.g., Level 3)
- Ending point (e.g., Level 5)
The system automatically creates termly targets for the progression
Apply to all subjects in that key stage (optional)
All pupils in that key stage automatically receive these targets
Save

Use this method for whole-key-stage consistency or when you want all pupils to follow the same progression pathway.

Setting Targets for the Next Academic Year

Begin planning targets for the following year:

When you can start:

From 1st June onwards, you can set targets for the next academic year

How to enable future target setting:

Go to Admin settings
Find the "Future Targets" toggle
Turn it ON
The system view automatically switches to the next academic year
Set targets as normal using any method above
When complete, turn the toggle back OFF

Important: Remember to turn the future targets toggle off when you're finished, so the system returns to the current year view.

Tips for Effective Target Setting

Be realistic — Consider each pupil's starting point, ability, and pace of progress
Use Smart Fill as a starting point — Then adjust based on individual needs
Review regularly — Targets can be adjusted mid-year if progress accelerates or slows
Involve pupils and parents — Share targets so everyone understands expectations
Document your reasoning — Note why you've set specific targets for specific pupils
