What are the dfferent ways that I can complete assessment for my pupils?

Different ways to complete assessment within SOLAR

Complete a Single Star Card

Click the star to open up the Star Card.

Add context, evidence and/or a file or photo if required.

Click Completed.

Click Save.

If you have opened a star card and have not made any changes to it then simply press 'Cancel'

Complete Preceding Stars

Note - You can only use this feature if your SOLAR administrator has allowed it in your SOLAR settings.

When a user adds assessment to SOLAR they would normally complete the first star, then the second star etc.  There are times when you just know that the pupil is secure in the statement so rather than having to open 3 star cards and complete them individually this feature allows you to complete all the stars at the same time. For example, if you select the 3rd star and click the complete button, if you have not completed the first 2 stars when you click save you get the following message:-

Select Yes to complete the preceding stars, No will complete only the selected star and Cancel will take you back to the star card.   Note - you can use this feature on more than the last star.  For example using this feature on the 2nd star will complete the 1st star as well but not the 3rd star.

Allocating a Star Card to more pupils or an entire class.

Note - You can only use this feature if your SOLAR administrator has allowed it in your SOLAR settings.  This feature only works if you have opened a star card that has not had any evidence or update previously done to it i.e. a brand new unused star card.

To allocate a Star Card to more pupils or an entire class click 'Add more pupils' next type either pupils names into the 'Add pupils' box or class names into the 'Add tutor groups' box.

Then click update. Then add your assessment as normal.

Completion of Multiple Statements

Note - You can only use this feature if your SOLAR administrator has allowed it in your SOLAR settings.

To complete multiple statements at once click on the number at the beginning of each statement to highlight it and then click 'Complete Statements'. You can amend the date if required. If you wish to set a baseline for a pupil at a percentage i.e. P5+50% rather than a whole level you can use this feature to do this.  Just change the date to 30th August and you will have a new start of year level.

You can also add evidence into all of the star cards for the selected statements in 1 go by click 'Add Evidence'

If you change your mind then click click 'Cancel'.

Allow Select Multiple Stars by Star Name

Note - You can only use this feature if your SOLAR administrator has allowed it in your SOLAR settings.

When this setting is switched on it allows you to complete all of the Emerging, Developing or Secure stars in a particular level in one go.

Click on the Star Name that you would like to complete all of the stars for.

You can also amend the date or if required.

Then click 'Complete Statements'

If you change your mind then simply click 'Cancel'

Multiple Selection of Stars

Note - You can only use this feature if your SOLAR administrator has allowed it in your SOLAR settings.

When this setting is switched on you can use the right button on your mouse to click and highlight stars at random. The stars will then be highlighted in green.

Once you have highlighted your selection you then need to click 'Complete Stars'. You can also change the date if required or add evidence in to each of the stars by clicking 'Add Evidence'

If you change your mind simply click 'Cancel'

Please note many of these functions form part of your user profile. See article Permissions for more information. Some of the functions above also need to be switched on from within your school's Assessment Settings.
